InnovationLab (Ireland) Ltd was established in 2003 as an academic spin-out from the Northern Ireland Economic Research Centre. The joint directors of InnovationLab are Nola Hewitt-Dundas and Stephen Roper. The work of InnovationLab draws on and complements their academic research and teaching at Queen’s University Belfast and Warwick Business School.

 

InnovationLab is a specialist consultancy focussing on issues relating to R&D, innovation and economic development. The key capabilities of the firm are:

 

·         Policy research and analysis with a specific focus on economic development measures, R&D, innovation and innovation systems

 

·         Survey and benchmark analyses of R&D, innovation and other forms of economic development activity

 

·         Econometric and statistical evaluation of policy effectiveness and impact

 

Since its foundation in 2003, working together with its partners and research associates, InnovationLab has undertaken projects funded by:

 

·         Invest Northern Ireland

·         Forfás

·         The Department of Education and Learning, Belfast

·         Enterprise Ireland

·         Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Belfast

·         IntertradeIreland

 

A key element of the work of InnovationLab has been the regular Irish Innovation Panel survey which compares innovation levels in manufacturing and tradable services in Ireland and Northern Ireland. More details here.
